BarrelHouse Brewing, Paso Robles, CA.

Background

BarrelHouse Brewing Company was founded in 2011 by cousins and co-owners Jason Carvalho and Kevin Nickell and joined in 2012 by longtime friend Chris Vaughn. The brewery opened in Paso Robles in 2013 and by the end of 2014 had doubled its production. They doubled their production again in 2015 by opening a second location in the heart of the historic San Luis Obispo. In 2017 Carvalho and Nickell opened a third location in Visalia.  The Visalia taproom is near Hanford where the pair still run Carvalho Construction. The pair do all the construction that was required opening three facilities. BarrelHouse Brewing Company has quickly grown to be the largest family owned and operated craft brewery in San Luis Obispo County. Since opening the brewing team has grown to include Head Brewer George Numair, Lead Brewer Mathew Jacobs, and Brewer/Cellar Master Gavin Warnock.

Experience

We had visited BarrelHouse Brewing Company in Paso Robles the first time several years ago. The grounds are still a beautiful place to hang out and we love the waterfall. It seems like the area has expanded and includes a stage where they host outdoor concerts. The tasting room still surrounds the brewing equipment with several tables and a bar. An Uber dropped us off on a Tuesday afternoon and we ordered a flight. We enjoyed the Winter Brett Saison, funky & tart, Passion Aggressive, a great light sour Berlinerweisse, Strawberry Milkshake IPA, a different IPA with a strawberry milkshake nose and Juicy IPA. We left with a six pack of Passion Aggressive. Overall  great ambiance, pleasant staff and pretty good beer.

No nearby lodging noted. They offer no food routinely but do have food trucks Thursday through Sunday’s.
