Borderlands Brewing, Tucson, AZ

Background

Mike Mallozzi and Myles Stone, opened Borderlands Brewing  in downtown Tucson in 2011. The brewery, in the Tucson Warehouse Arts District is in a brick building with wooden exposed rafters that was built in the early 1900s.

Voltron Brewing Company is a joint operation between Borderlands Brewing and Sentinel Peak Brewing Company. They formed Arizona’s first brewery co-op in 2018 so that they could expand their productions by sharing a large warehouse space on Toole Avenue.

Experience

There is plenty of room inside Borderlands Brewing and a nice outside patio.  Food trucks are available on certain days.  They also carry chips and salsa inside.  I suggest sitting at the bar and watching the occasional train go by with the mountains in the background.

They are proud of their locally acquired ingredients they put in their beers.  We enjoyed a flight:

Prickly Pear Wheat using locally gathered prickly pear fruit, La Morena brown uses pecans grown in Green Valley and roasted on site, Citrana Wild Ale, a sour Gose that is a FAV and contains sea salt, lemons and coriander and a great nose (had to get a growler), Red Rock Sour, much lighter sour for those new to the type and tart, Honey Kolsch a good standard Kolsch and Noche Dolce a vanilla porter they are known for.  Danny was a great server and fun to chat with about the brewery.  We were there in the afternoon as I hear it gets packed at night.

There is no nearby lodging noted. When in Tucson also check out Pueblo Vida Brewing and Crooked Tooth Brewing !
