Coppertail Brewing Company, Tampa, FL

Background

In 2014 Coppertail Brewing Company opened their doors.

Owner Kent Bailey once spent his days toiling as an attorney and his nights producing home craft brew. He started in his kitchen, shifted to his garage and then expanded to his driveway as the operation and the dream grew larger. When Kent was able to obtain some funding he went looking for a master brewer. He found Casey Hughes who started his brewing career with the now extinct Key West Brewing Company. After the brewery closed its doors, Casey went back to new Jersey where he worked for the same brewer for several years before Kent found him.

The duo found a large 1920’s building in Ybor City that used to make mayonnaise and package olives. It was a large enough building to allow the brewery to grow for awhile. The bar foot rail is the long-buried train rail that was unearthed during construction.

The name Coppertail Brewing Company is based on a mythical monster Kent’s five year old daughter came up with that lived in Tampa Bay.

Experience

One of our new favorite breweries in Tampa!  A huge facility, Coppertail Brewing Company has  alot of capacity to make beer. A nice patio and upscale beautiful indoor seating area with interesting artwork.  Great selections of varietal IPA’s, and sours.  Very unique and delicious Hoppuccino with a big expresso hop nose and flavor (Growler worthy), excellent sour in Eldermother and a cranberry sour in Whoops. They have brought a kitchen on site and offer a nice variety of food options.

No nearby lodging noted.

When in the area check out Angry Chair Brewing and Three Daughters in St. Petersburg.
