Background – Culmination Brewing
Culmination Brewing principle owner and certified Master Brewer Tomas Sluiter opened the doors in January 2015. One thing that sets Culmination apart is its 5-vessel gravity-fed and automated 5 barrel brewhouse, along with its plans to produce sake down the line. The unique 5 barrel automated brewhouse at Culmination will allow Sluiter to make a huge variety of beers while avoiding the pitfalls of a smaller system like they have by being able to crank out 3-4 brews in one shift.
After about two years, Sluiter turned over daily operations at the brewery so he could focus more on overseas collaborations. Turns out Portland beer is quite popular in Japan. Sluiter has brewed collaboration beers with Japanese breweries. His work with Japanese breweries led to the Fuji to Hood festival, which he hopes will become an annual event, rotating back and forth between Portland and Japan.
Experience
The food at Culmination Brewing is as interesting and delicious as the beer. They offer excellent vegetarian options. We enjoyed root veggie mash with mushroom gravy and delicious local, well seasoned brussel sprouts. The beer: enjoyed two flights: favorites- Peche, Light peach nose – funk from Brett-light tart, Obscured By Clouds – Big hoppy nose & flavor, Amaterasu Sour Wit With Yuzu, Tart nose-Medium sour, Blackberry Lime Sour, Ferret the Younger Triple IPA, & Sonny Disposition a great Porter. We suggest you not miss Culmination Brewing when visiting Portland.
No nearby lodging noted, we enjoyed an excellent Uber experience.
When in Portland also check out Cascade Brewing, Widmer Brothers Brewing, The Labrewatory and Base Camp Brewing.
