Background
8 Bit Aleworks was the first microbrewery in the West Valley suburb of Avondale. Ryan Whitten and his wife, Krystina, worked closely with the city government to get their business under way. City officials even offered to help them find investors. After nearly two years of planning, the Whittens opened 8-Bit to the public June 2015.
The couple are both big gamers and have been for years. Thus the 8 Bit Aleworks name and motif of video games. Ryan admits growing up he was as much into fishing as a kid as video games.
Ryan grew up in Avondale. Ryans father was a salesman of farming and dairy supplies. As a result, growing up Ryan spent plenty of time in and around farms in Arizona.
Experience
Made our way out to Avondale to try out one of the basins newer brewpubs. Interesting meld of vintage gaming and craft beer. 8-bit is the creation of Ryan and Krystina, a very friendly couple that are following their dreams to create quality craft beer. We had to get a flight to try all of their creations. Among my favorites: Hopassassins Creed, a great session IPA, boasts a nice floral nose and flavor with no aftertaste. The Hefe is a Lie, is their hefeweizen with light banana notes, which Ryan ran through a randle stuffed with cocoa nibs. What a different and delicious experiment. And Princess, a delicious peach IPA. No food on sight, but at times I understand they have food trucks. Keep up the good work! We suggest everyone stop by and give them a try.
