Background
Switchback Brewing Company in beautiful Burlington Vermont has been around since 2002. It is one of the first in the area craft breweries. Bill Cherry and his friend, Jeff, acquired brewing equipment from a failed Arizona brewery and served their first craft beer out of a local tavern called Ake’s Place. With success came the need for a larger brewing space. As of 2017 the brewery is 100% employee owned.
The switchback tap room opened in 2014.
Experience
Switchback Brewing Company tap room at the brewery was in the midst of improvement when we visited. An outdoor patio was being installed and required some off road traipsing to get to the front door. Once inside we seated ourselves at a large copper bar and got some flights. The servers were friendly making for a comfy experience. Our favorites were the slow-fermented brown ale and a smoked marzen. They serve a few snack items including hot dogs steamed in beer. I still regret not having a hot dog! They have a full bottling line at the brewery so we nabbed a few bottles to take home.
