Background
Jack’s Abby was founded in 2011 by three brothers, Jack, Eric, and Sam Hendler. Jack is the head brewer. Jack’s Abby is loyal to lager, a German style that requires a longer fermenting process. The Jack’s Abby brewing team travels to Germany every year to procure German hops and malt from small family run operations in Bavaria. The brother’s success has resulted in numerous expansions to the original facility. In 2015 they moved to a larger facility. The original facility was taken over by a new brewery, Exhibit A Brewing. In 2016, Springdale was founded as the experimental and barrel-aging arm of Jack’s Abby Brewing. The barrel house is right next door to Jack’s Abby.
Experience
We arrived on a late Saturday afternoon after visiting the Spencer Brewing annual event. It is a large facility with many community tables and some smaller tables in a back dining area and a bar. From the tasting room the brewing equipment is visible behind a glass wall. Beers from both Jack’s Abby & The Barrel Room “Springdale” are available. We opted for a couple flights, our favorites being Pearly Wit and Smoke and Dagger, a yummy smoked black lager. We also purchased and drank a bottle of Terroirdome, a fantastic wine grape based sour. Jack’s has a pretty good menu of food available including, pizza, sandwiches and even mussels. Springdale is next door and accessible via a flight of stairs. The Springdale tasting room has many different games and activities available.
No nearby lodging noted. When in the Boston area, we suggest Night Shift, Remnant & Trillium Beer Garden when in season.
