Background – OHSO Brewery
OHSO Brewery opened in Phoenix in 2011. John Lane, a native of Traverse City, Michigan, and partner Pat Walsh are the duo behind O.H.S.O. Lane worked for years in the restaurant business and teamed up with Pat Walsh to open the first OHSO in the Arcadia area. Short for “Outrageous Homebrewer’s Social Outpost,” OHSO Brewery presents an ever-rotating menu of small batch brews and pub-style food. They have slowly increased the number of beers they produce themselves and specialize in offering Arizona brewed beers as well.
O.H.S.O. Brewery popularity has grown; in 2014 they opened in North Scottsdale and included a small batch distillery. Besides brewing small batch beer, they distill and bottle flavored vodkas, gin and rum. A third location in Paradise Valley opened in 2015 maintaining the same vibe and has an amazingly large outside covered patio area. Most recently in 2018 they opened in Gilbert, AZ. We haven’t made it over there yet, but by all accounts it’s even larger. All of the OHSO locations are known for a cool bicycle centric industrial look, opening onto large, year round patios that are kid and dog friendly. All dogs are treated to dog treats and their own water bowls.
Experience
We have been going to OHSO since they first opened in Arcadia. We have enjoyed all of the locations other than the Gilbert location that just opened. All locations have creative bicycle themes inside and out, a variety of good beer and good food options. We enjoy a few of the beers they produce and can always find Arizona brews to our liking. There are few other breweries in town offer the large dog friendly patios that are used year around. The Paradise Valley patio is large enough for a corn hole range. Not only are the lunch and dinner options pretty good, you can usually hit up brunch for a breakfast and beer combo. You won’t find the highly unique, one off creations you’ll find at AZ Wilderness, but overall, we recommend OHSO for a fun, unique experience.
