Background – Westbound & Down Brewing
Westbound & Down Brewing Company joining with The Buffalo Restaurant and Bar, a historic staple of this former mining town, opened their doors December 4, 2015. Jake Gardner, the head brewer came to Westbound after four years as Head Brewer at Denver’s Hogshead Brewery.
Westbound is currently working on opening another facility in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver and will also feature a joint restaurant concept. The new location will serve as an extension of their current program, while also focusing on small-batch experimental beers.
Experience
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and got a spot at the bar. Westbound has a great looking tasting room with a square bar in the middle, tables surrounding and all in plain view of the 15 bbl brewing equipment. They had twelve beers on tap that day and we tried four in a flight. Of the four, I preferred the Colorado Pale. They offer a nicely diverse menu and we did enjoy lunch as well. If you find yourself traveling I70, west of Denver, Westbound is well worth a visit.
There are three hotels about a half mile down Miner Street.
