Background
Lamplighter Brewing Company
AC Jones and Cayla Marvil are transplants from a small town in Vermont where they enjoyed the several town breweries and were avid home brewers. After moving to the Cambridge area they were amazed at the lack of breweries in the Cambridge area. The pair soon began to put a business plan together to open a brewery. They attended a brewing school in Chicago and then began the process of finding property and battling licensing and zoning. They feel fortunate to have found a 10,000 sq. ft. facility that used to be neighborhood auto repair shop owned by a father and son team. The owners of Metric Systems took a chance in 2015 and chose to lease the building to a start-up rather than sell to a developer. The duo hired Tyler Fitzpatrick as brew master and credits him with the success of the ever-rotating beer lineup. Lamplighter Brewing Company finally opened their doors around October 2016.
A majority of Lamplighter beer is sold on-site via draft, cans, and crowlers, and they also distribute to a handful of liquor stores, bars, and restaurants in the surrounding area.
Experience
We visited on a Wednesday afternoon and joined several patrons at the bar. The front tasting room has several tables and couches as well as the bar. They recently were able to expand the tasting room to the back of the building. Both areas overlook the brew house floor. The front taproom also oversees the canned beers they have available for sale.
Lamplighter Brewing shares the taproom space with Longfellows, an awesome cafĂ© serving a variety of coffees, teas, morning snacks, and more until 3pm. We enjoyed some delicious avocado toast. We started out ordering a flight : Loved “Birds of a Feather” Great hazy IPA, “Brothers Antitoi” a tart Brett Wild Ale, “Watt” English Bitter, malty with a bit of cantaloupe & “Side Salad” a lightly lemon IPA & Rabbit, Rabbit a hazy, silky NEIPA. Lamplighter is our favorite brewery in the area and we can’t wait to go back.
No nearby lodging noted. Cambridge Brewing Company is only a half mile from Lamplighter.
