Background – Oyster City Brewing Company
There’s not a whole lot in Apalachicola. When visitors to this small coastal town asked for a local beer, the best they could do was from a brewery a couple of hours away. The owners of the Owl Cafe and taproom saw an opportunity. After plenty of practice and planning, they opened Oyster City Brewing Company in 2014.
Oyster City Brewing Company was founded in 2013 by Cassie Gary, Rex Humphries, Susan Gary, and Bo Walker who all remain shareholders in the company. Since opening its doors, the high demand for their exceptional lineup of beers has grown exponentially.
Clayton Mathis has been a craft beer fan since college and is now the Head Brewer at Oyster City,
Experience
The lore of Oyster City and the fact that there was a brewpub in town was enough to bring us to Apalachicola. The setting is a historic fishing village. We enjoyed unbelievably inexpensive oysters in the Tap Room and a couple of their own brewed beers. The brewery is across the street and offers a couple more types of beers. Red Snapper IPA bit of a nose, brewed with Beets giving a bit of red color, nice flavor, Apalach IPA, no nose heavy IPA hoppy flavor, perfect with Oysters.
The Water Street Hotel and Marina is about four blocks away.
