Background
The Cannon Brew Pub opened in 1996 and was the first brew pub in Columbus.
The brewpub consist of two main areas – a barside dining area and pizza side dining area. The brewery located in the barside area is the central feature of the Brewpub. Dominating the rear of the building, it reaches from below floor level to the ceiling, 20 feet tall. The copper-topped bar, directly in front of it, provides a place where patrons can watch their favorite beer being brewed. They are known for their Wood Fired Pizzas, Homemade Burgers, Great Steaks, Pastas, and in house brewery.
Experience
We found ourselves driving through Georgia and needed a beer around Columbus. Cannon Brew Pub is housed in an interesting historic building with several cannons inside used as decor, makes sense. Our intent was to get some lunch and to try a flight of their house brewed beers. The food is good, we enjoyed the drunken mussles and crispy fries. We found the beers to be somewhat standard fair. The staff were pleasant and the service was good.
If you want fresh beer in Columbus, it was at the time the only game in town. Update, it appears there may be a second brewery/brew pub in town.
