Background
Barbara and Greg Gerovac, in 2010, re-established the famous Anaheim Beer that disappeared when National Prohibition closed the taps in 1920. In May of 2011, they brewed our first batch of Anaheim 1888®, based on the style of beer made at the original Anaheim Brewery.
The couple developed their love for fresh, local beer during the seven years they lived in Bavaria, Germany while they were in the military. They both served for twenty years and retired as Lieutenant Colonels meaning Anaheim Brewery is 100% veteran owned.
After they retired from the army they worked in various breweries to learn the brewing game.
Experience
The tasting room for Anaheim Brewery is located at the Anaheim Packing District less than three miles from Disneyland (on the ART line too). The beers are simple but decent. We visited in October so we sampled the yummy Oktoberfest beer. A private party was taking place on the patio/beer garden. As a result we enjoyed the long wooden bar on comfy bar stools bar that overlooked the brewery. We also tried the gold, IPA and stout. We also tried the signature 1888 which is based on a recipe from the original brewery established in the 1800’s. The location of Anaheim brewery makes it worth the trip. It’s a nice respite from the Disney crowd. Across Farmer’s Park is the Packing House, a fun and funky food court experience.
