Barn Brewery, San Diego, CA

Background

Barn Brewery,  a nano-brewery on El Cajon in the North Park area opened in April 2015. Chris Finch and longtime business partner Jennifer Alexander teamed up with David Baker, who owns the building, along with the shopping plaza across the street to open Barn Brewery. Finch and Alexander used to operate Firehouse Brewing Company that closed in 2010 and currently also operate the Poorhouse Brewing Company located on 30th Street. Finch, who is also a full-time firefighter, works with brewer Derek Linwood to develop recipes for both Barn Brewery & Poorhouse Brewing.

Experience

We arrived to the Barn Brewery on an early Friday night. The wood paneled storefront does resemble a barn. Inside there are exposed wood beam rafters, seats at the bar, several tables and a cozy fireplace. There are several tables on the patio where we ended up. The night we were there they had 8 Barn beers available and 9 guest taps. We all got different beers and shared. I was particularly fond of Juicy, the NE IPA.

We liked this place and North park is a great place to walk around to several breweries. The Barn does have a light menu although we did not eat. There is a Berkshire Motor Hotel just west on El Cajon.

When in North Park, check out  Belching Beaver.
