Black Market Brewing, Temecula, CA

Background

Kevin Dyer like so many other start up brewers, got tired of corporate America and wanted to follow a dream. In 2007 he opened Black Market Brewing Co. utilizing a small 1 bbl. brewing system in a tiny 800 sq. ft. industrial garage in Temecula. By 2009 they had moved to 41740 Enterprise Circle North, taking on about 2,500 square feet and opening a tasting room. Today they occupy 20,000 square feet and distribute their beer all over the world.

Experience

We arrived on a Wednesday evening looking forward to enjoying some Black Market Sours. We have been able to enjoy a couple varieties of Tradecraft in cans as the rest of the country has. Black Market Brewing has a large tasting room with an L shaped bar and several picnic tables all in plain view of the brewing equipment. There were several people enjoying themselves when we arrived but we did get a spot at the bar. They had 16 beers on tap calling for a few flights. Of the four IPA’s we tried Buckaroo Bonzai, a hazy IPA was probably my favorite although Murk Hamill & Aftermath were quite good. The Vinous Puma, Saison/Farmhouse is a unique & delicious Saison brewed with local white grapes and hopped. The Watermelon Gose was delicious as expected and the Superstition was like drinking pumpkin pie with a sugar rim.

The kitchen is located behind the picnic tables and is where the pizza magic happens. We enjoyed an excellent pie and a wedge (unexpected treat).

No nearby lodging noted, Uber my friends. When in the area, check out relentless Brewing as well as 8-bit Brewing both reviewed at www.searchfortheholyale.com
