Background
Black Star Co-op started as idea of neighborhood beer bar owned by the community it served. After raising nearly $500,000 from Member-Owners, Black Star Co-op opened its doors to the public in September 2010. The Co-operative pub is a business owned by the people that purchase or manage its services. You don’t have to be a member-owner to come to the brewpub, but supporting Black Star Co-op means supporting livable wages, democratic workplaces, local farms, and quality products from your community brewpub!
Experience
The pub has plenty of room indoors and a patio. Food and beer orders must be placed at the bar. They do have a nice variety of food available. It is a different kind of place in that it is a self serve facility. They have an area set aside that contains all condiments, silverware and water. Patrons are expected to bus their own tables upon finishing. They had a nice variety of beer available when we were there. We enjoyed the Waterloo, nice Farmhouse nose- tart Berliner flavor, Vulcan, their Rye IPA, citrus hop nose and that Rye IPA kick. Also enjoyable was a guest beer Jolly Pumpkins IO Sour Saison, tart nose-great tart Saison. We suggest you check Black Star out.
Street parking and a nearby condo parking garage can be used. No nearby lodging noted.
When in Austin check out Blue Owl Brewing, Zilker Brewing, and The Brewtorium.
