Background
Four guys started Bosque Brewing in 2012. In 2009, co-founders Gabe Jensen, Jotham Michnovicz, and Kevin Jameson set out to launch a company. Having never brewed a single batch of beer, they decided that if they could produce a palatable beer, this would be a venture worth pursuing. They devoured homebrew books, purchased equipment and attempted their first all-grain brew. Looking back, the guys thought the beer was terrible, but it was enough for them to fast track the inception of their brewery. It took two and a half years of research and development. And with the inclusion of another owner, Jared Michnovicz, for Bosque Brewing Co. to open their doors. Bosque’s start-up loan from Accion unlocked the full suite of Brewing the American Dream services for the co-owners. The owners also attended Speed Coaching and received one-on-one advice from Jim Koch himself.
Since opening they have added other owners. Jess Griego was added as Chief Experience Officer, John Bullard was added as Chief Production Officer, and J. Quinn Winerd was added as Chief Financial Officer.
The group has grown the brewery to six locations, three in the Albuquerque area and three in the Las Cruces area.
Experience
We arrived at Las Cruces Bosque Brewing on a Wednesday afternoon. It is right off I-10 is in a newer plaza next to Jimmy John’s. There is a dog friendly courtyard patio and a patio in the front. Bosque is very accessible. They offer plenty of parking. The brew pub has several tables and a bar all with everyone’s favorite metal barstools. Luckily we did score a table in the back. We started with a flight of six beers and all were quite drinkable. Our favorites were the Bouquet of Flowers, a honey sour, Driftwood Stout, Elephants on Parade, a guava wheat and Dry Acequia an IPA.
We enjoyed friendly prompt service. The menu was diverse and we found the food to be quite good for a brewpub. The Street Tacos were great as was Green Chili Pork Stew.
When in the Albuquerque area, check out Dialogue Brewery and Marble Brewery.
