Catawba Brewing Company, Asheville, NC

Background – Catawba Brewing Company

Catawba Brewing Company, opened in 1999, but its roots are found in a home-brew kit given as a Christmas gift to Billy Pyatt in 1994. He and his brother Scott fell in love with the hobby and eventually decided to turn pro and open their original facility in Morganton, NC. Since then, they’ve opened a taproom and two more production spaces in North Carolina, the newest being their 10-barrel brewery and taproom in Charlotte.

Experience

We visited Catawba Brewing Company in Biltmore Village.  They also have a  site in the popular South Slope and another in Morganton, the original.  The beer was good and the tasting room fun. Open air during good weather with a pool table in the main room.  We enjoyed a flight at the bar. Super friendly and knowledgeable barkeep.  Took home a can of Farmer Ted cream ale, the tastiest cream ale I have ever had!  The White Zombie wit was also tasty.  We even enjoyed the seasonal King Don’s Pumpkin Ale.  The Firewater IPA stood out with a nice hoppy nose and good flavor.  No food, but some simple snacks can be purchased.  Another Catawba is located in Morganton, NC not too far from Asheville.

Two hotels are nearby, the Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville and the Baymont Inn and Suites.

When in Asheville check out Wicked Weed Funkatorium and Wooden Robot.
