Background
Desert Monks Brewing Company
Ever sit around with your work buddies and imagine opening a brewery? Five people working at Intel just made it a reality and opened Desert Monks Brewing. Arturo Ruiz, Daniel Rosales-Yeomans, Jose Hinojosa and husband-and-wife team Chris and Sommer Decker opened Desert Monks in December 2018 in Gilbert Town Square. The 3,000-square-foot space is split into 1,200 for the 5-barrel dual brewing system and 1,800 for a taproom with 20 handles. For now, all five co-owners are keeping their jobs at Intel, will share all duties at Desert Monks, including taking turns brewing.
Experience
We have not had a lot of luck trying newly opened breweries as it usually takes a bit of time to hone the process and to deliver great beers. We were pleasantly surprised visiting the Desert Monks Brewing Company. The tasting room has a wooden bar, a long communal table, several small tables and a great area with couches. We started with a flight consisting of Fray Tormenta a Porter, Wy Abbo a great hazy guava Pale, Campfire Dreams a Hefe, Emphasis on STYLE a Kolsch & Lehtz Do It an IPA. Also tried an interesting Cherry Kolsch called Quit your Wine-ing. The Wy Abbo was good enough to take home a growler.
A great beer tender Jordan took care of us. You can find food trucks some afternoons and we did enjoy a great hamburger. Finally, a couple of the guys were gracious enough to let me take a pic amongst the brewing equipment. We are keeping an eye on these guys. When in Gilbert, be sure to check out Arizona Wilderness.
No nearby lodging noted. Check out the food trucks.
