Background
Dan and Jack Diebolt opened the doors of Diebolt Brewing in September 2013. The father and son owned microbrewery is located in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood. The family has connections to some French brewers making champagne near the Alsace region of France, and they work that into their brewing style and branding.
The company recently faced a billion-dollar conundrum: fight a trademark battle over the name of one of its best beers, The Commodore, or acquiesce to the requests of another brewery that makes a beer with the same name. The answer, of course, was to give in, as the opponent would have been Ballast Point, the San Diego-based craft brewery that was bought out late last year for a stunning $1 billion by Constellation Brands. We are waiting for the new name for Commodore.
Experience
The tasting room has about 10 tables and a bar right off the business end of the property. We sat at the bar and ordered a flight of 6 beers. They offered 10 different handles that day we visited. We enjoyed their Commodore – Imperial Stout, & C’est La Saison – Belgium Strong Dark Ale. They do have a few snacks and an occasional food truck. Diebolt Brewing now has several beers available in cans.
