Drunken Rabbit Brewing Background
Bruno Coelho and Dave Smith opened Drunken Rabbit Brewing in December 2017. The pair has been friends/co-workers for almost 20 years. Bruno has been home brewing for many years and has won some home brewing competitions. Drunken Rabbit Brewing is South Hadley’s first craft brewery. Coelho and Smith got help during the remodeling of the building from a Kickstarter program. The program raised $20,000 on a goal of $16,000.
The Drunken Rabbit opened with a 10-barrel brew house with a matching 10-barrel fermenter. They anticipate brewing around 15,000 barrels of beer annually.
Experience
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to a large tasting room holding about 100 people. There are many tables, sofas, darts, foosball, an L shaped bar and a patio out front. Someone was setting up for a birthday party. We settled in on a comfy leather couch. Many of the four top tables were actually game tables with checkers and chess pieces in the drawers. The owners want their customers to enjoy good beer and have a great time doing it. We grabbed a flight of Fuzzy Wuzzy 3.0 a NE IPA, Chateau De Hare an IPA, Everything Nice a pumpkin Ale and Happy Daze a Kolsch. We soon found ourselves getting full pours because the beer and the vibe was so perfect for a chilly New England fall day. We also enjoyed some foosball. We met Val, Dave’s mother who was helping out. Even though we were thousand of miles from home she made us feel like long time friends. This is the kind of place we wish was in our neighborhood.
The do not currently offer food but have food trucks on the weekends. No nearby lodging noted.
