Background
French Broad Brewery is undergoing ownership change after a Chapel Hill-based couple agreed to purchase French Broad Brewing Co. Sarah and Paul Casey of Chapel Hill were named the new owners of the brewery after finalizing the purchase in 2017. The couple stated the goal of the acquisition is to expand the 16-year-old operation and return the brand to growth after years of failing to keep up with the booming beer scene in the city.
The newly expanded tasting room now has pizza and occasional live music. In addition, the brewery now cans several varieties of their beer.
Experience
French Broad Brewery is smaller brewery located across the street from Catawba in the Biltmore Village area. It was a bit difficult to find as it is tucked away behind other businesses. It is an unassuming tasting room that seemed to be a place that locals frequented. Of course we haven’t seen the new owners look. Only a few chairs outside and a couple of tables indoors. The beers weren’t the best we had on the trip, but good enough. We drank the Gateway Kolsch and the IPA. We saw the beers on tap around town, too.
No nearby lodging noted.
