Curt Dale opened Dale Bros Brewery in 2003 and was one of the founding breweries of the Los Angeles-area craft beer movement. In 2007 his brother Andy moved to California to join him. The two brothers had home-brewed together previously and had won a couple of awards for their creations. By 2014 the brothers had grown the brewery to a point they decided it would be wise to trademark the company name. As with so many other brewery stories I have heard, they got denied as there was already a Dale in the brewing business. After some brainstorming, they decided on Last Name Brewing. In May 2016 they set about to rebrand themselves.
We arrived on a Friday shortly after opening. Last Name Brewing is located in an industrial park in Upland. At the front of the brewery is a small tasting room with several barrel top tables and a very cool bar with river rock running down the middle. The wall holding the tap handles has brushed metal sections that look great. In the back is the brewing equipment and several picnic tables for larger groups. On that day they had 21 beers varieties on tap. The friendly beertender set us up with a couple flights. We especially enjoyed their hazy NEIPAs, Gigawatt & Disco Parade, Grapefruit Sunny Side a west coast IPA & Passion Fruit Wit “a great poolside beer”.
Last Name has some snacks available but also schedules food trucks most days of the week. No nearby lodging noted.
