Mason’s Brewing Company, Brewer, ME

Background

Mason’s Brewing Company opened its doors in 2016 thanks to Chris Morley. Chris is a former Bangor cop who went into mortgage lending, then was bit hard by the home-brewing bug. After years of researching West Coast taprooms and the beer halls of Europe, Morley spotted an abandoned riverfront parcel on Google Earth.

The name “Mason’s” was derived from John Mason, a sailor and colonizer who mapped and discovered the early waterways in this beautiful region of Maine.

In 2022, Morley opened a second Mason’s in Machias Maine. This spot too has the same delicious menu.

Experience

Heading to Bar Harbor and Acadia, we were happy to discover Mason’s Brewing in the appropriately named town of Brewer. We arrived at Mason’s on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. A table was available near the window overlooking the river. The tasting room is large with a variety of tables. There is also a nice patio overlooking the river but on this day, too rainy.

Our group ordered a flight and a couple pints. We enjoyed the beer offerings while we looked the menu over. They offer a diverse menu that includes starters, sandwiches, burgers and pizza. Everyone ordered some type of sandwich. The portions are large and delicious and they have a great variety of fries.

Their staff are friendly and helpful. Mason’s offers both food and canned beer to go. The tasting room is also accessible. There is a Residence Inn of Bangor not far away. The crew suggests you give Mason’s a try and if you are next heading to Kennebunkport, check out “Odd by Nature“.
