Mother Bunch Brewing, Phoenix, AZ

Julie Meeker has a background in Engineering and home brewing. In September 2014 she decided to focus on brewing beer and with her husband Jimmie McBride and opened Mother Bunch Brewing. Julie overseas operations of the brewpub, leading the vision of both the kitchen and the brewery. The brewers for Mother Bunch are Jerry Gant and Omar Zamora.

The home of Mother Bunch Brewing is in the 1926 J.B. Bayless Historic Building at the intersection of 7thStreet and Garfield. They are a proud member of Roosevelt Row. The Roosevelt Row Artists’ District is a creative district just outside downtown Phoenix nationally known for its arts and cultural events, restaurants, galleries, and live music.

The old brick building is a large open space. The walls are adorned with local art and an impressive mural. At the center of the brewpub is a horseshoe shaped bar with a chalkboard at the head, listing their 20-tap menu. They have plenty of tables and a few large group tables complete with church pews. The first time we visited in 2015, Mother had maybe 6 of their brews and 14 guest beers. I was surprised today to find 19 of the 20 taps were MB beers. Quite an impressive increase in production! They had three Gose on tap one of which is a dark lightly smokey Gose, Krampusnacht, which is quite unique and delicious. You have to also love their first commercially produced beer they did at OHSO, Cherry Popper Porter. They have an extensive menu with many interesting food options.
