Mothers Brewing Company, Springfield, MO

Jeff Schrag began planning a brewery in 2009 and gathered together a group to make it happen. Jeff was committed to revitalizing downtown so he focused there to find a building. After settling on one building, fate intervened and the recently shuttered Butternut Bread factory became available. The building, built in 1902 on the west edge of downtown had filled the air with the aroma of baking for the last seventy years. Mothers Brewing Company opened in 2011 and began bottling the same year. Their barrel aging program also started the first year of operation utilizing Missouri Sherry, whiskey, bourbon and rum barrels. By 2014 they added a canning line.

We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and sat in the tasting room. We enjoyed the Rocko 2.0, a sour wheat, Blush, a Pomegranate Hibiscus Wit & Lime Gose. We ended up taking a four pack of the Gose with us. The have a huge grassy area on which they host various activities and would be fun in good weather for families and dogs! They do offer brewery tours on Saturdays. Mother’s does not routinely offer food. This area is one of the rare locations where you can visit three breweries pretty close together: Mother’s, Springfield Brewing and Lost Signal Brewing Company. We did not visit Lost Signal but you can read about our Springfield Brewing post. No nearby lodging noted.
