Background
New Glory Craft Brewery was founded in 2013 by 25-year-old home brewer and French native Julian Lux and quickly became a Sacramento favorite. Julien grew up in a small town in France, halfway between Paris and Belgium. During the summers, he would explore his grandfather’s apple orchards. His grandfather used much of the fruit for crafting ciders on the property. From the time he helped his grandfather with the cider process – picking the apples, letting them sit and rot, pressing them for the juice, and aging the juice in oak barrels for months.
When Julien moved here, he didn’t know anything about beer.” In the region of France Julien is from, cider and champagne are the drinks of choice, not beer, so his exposure was limited. Julien moved to America found employment with Markstein Beverage Co., a distributor for breweries such as Sierra Nevada and Kona Brewing. One day he went on a tour of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and he found the same passion his grandfather found. Julien and his buddy left the brewery determined to try to make beer. Julien and his friend began home brewing and there came a point they decided to open their own brewery.
New Glory Craft Brewery became popular enough to open a new taproom/restaurant in 2018. Unlike the brewery’s existing taproom near Sacramento’s Colonial Village neighborhood, where the only eats have come from visiting food trucks since it opened in 2013, New Glory Eatery & Taproom features a 5,500-square-foot space fitted with a full kitchen and two pizza ovens.
Experience
This fairly new brewery in Sacramento has been open for about a year. We enjoyed all their beers in two flights. I liked the Mighty Eighth IPA, India Pale Lager, and especially a limited release Fleur de Saison. It is a delicious sour and absolutely growler worthy! It is rarity to run into sours so when you do, it’s a special treat. The taproom decent sized and they do not serve food, just great beer.
The brewery is in a fairly industrial area and I did not find nearby lodging.
