Nueces Brewing, Corpus Christi, TX

Background

Owners and friends Brandon Harper and Cale Moore opened Nueces Brewing in the summer of 2019. The taproom is a fully remodeled 1950s building that originally housed a car dealership on Water Street. Brandon is a Texas native and an entrepreneur that has owned a construction business and a sail boat charter company in Nicaragua. Once he and Cale decided to start Nueces Brewing, Brandon went to Alaska for a few months and worked at brewery to get a taste for what he was getting himself into. Cale Moore, was the home brewer. Cale had moved to Corpus Christi a couple years before he and Brandon decided to open a brewery.

Michael Mankoschewski, Nueces Brewing Co. brewmaster, started in the industry in 1976 in Germany. After serving in the German military, he worked as an apprentice at a small brewery and then earned a bachelor’s degree in brewing science.

Experience

We arrived at Nueces Brewing on a Tuesday afternoon shortly after the taproom opened. The main entrance to Nueces is accessible if one parks off the street in their parking lot. Right off the parking lot is the enormous patio and back entrance to the tavern. The taproom is cavernous with many picnic tables, couches, a large bar and a game area. The large patio area had cornhole and giant Jenga plus a nice view of the bay. Food Trucks come by during certain hours. This place is both kid and dog friendly. Nueces aims for lighter beers with fairly low ABV. Nine different beers were available to try so we started with a flight, Apricot Wit, Schwarzbier, IPA 001 and Okto. All the beers are drinkable and  good for the hot Texas coast summers.  The Apricot Wit was particurlarly delicious. Crowler fills are available to go. The staff were attentive and friendly.

There is a new Marriott Residence Inn literally across the street from Nueces. When in Corpus Christi, check out our review Lorelei Brewing and pay them a visit.
