Odd By Nature Brewing, Cape Neddick, ME

Background

Owner Jay Grey opened Odd By Nature Brewing in Cape Neddick in 2021. Grey, who also owns Ogunquit’s Food for Thought gastropub, came up with the brewery’s concept after participating in many beer events, providing food, and getting to know many brewers.

His original focus was on ice cream IPAs, candy beers, pastry stouts and beer cocktails. There is definitely a 90’s vibe in decor and beer flavors.

Grey’s second 90s themed brewery opened in February 2024 in Worcester, MA. The brewery, the first in downtown proper, joins a growing group of eclectic businesses inside a renovated mall.

Experience

We rolled into Cape Neddick and Odd By Nature on an early Friday afternoon. The tasting room has cartoons from the 90s painted on the walls as well as a couple electronic games from the 90s. You can choose a stool at the rectangular bar or one of the numerous tables. The brewery also has a large outdoor area where you can enjoy your beer.

We encountered a great variety of interestingly flavored and named beers. Three sours, Cool-Aide and Frozen Pizza, Airheads and Sweaty Betty’s, a nice New England, Shamrock Pride, as well as a Kolsch and a Lager.

The beers were delicious with flavors we had never before found in a beer. They also offer snacks and sandwiches. Our server was also friendly and attentive. Several of the beers were available in cans to go. The tasting room is accessible.
