Background
Poor House Brewing Company, a nano-brewery on 30th Street in the North Park area opened in September 2012. Chris Finch and longtime business partner Jennifer Alexander opened Barn Brewery. Finch and Alexander used to operate Firehouse Brewing Company that closed in 2010 and currently also operate the Barn Brewery located on 30th Street. Finch, who is also a full-time firefighter, works with brewer Derek Linwood to develop recipes for both Barn Brewery & Poorhouse Brewing.
Experience
We walked to Poor House Brewing Company on a Saturday night. There were several people there but we were able to grab some seats looking out onto 30th Street. There is a wrap around bar, several tables, a pool table and great seating along the windows looking out on 30th street. Poor House embraces a dive bar sensibility. The ladies at the bar are very friendly and helpful. We pondered over 14 beers on tap and settled on Corner Pocket the hazy IPA & Quarters Only, a Blonde Ale. We walked next door to Chris’ Ono Grinds Island Grill and brought back some delicious dinner.
Poor House does not have food but at times has a food truck. No nearby lodging noted. We stayed in a nearby AirBNB. Check out Fall Brewing a block north of Poor House while your in the neighboorhood.
