Background
Glenn Brady’s home-brewing efforts resulted in the creation of Silver Gulch Brewing in 1998. Brady opened the brewery in the small mining community of Fox, Alaska, located about 10 miles north of Fairbanks. The building, the former Fox Roadhouse, was purchased from his grandmother. The brewing vessels were purchased used from the Conner’s Brewery in St. Catherines, Canada and have a total capacity of 375 barrels. Since opening, the business has only grown. In 2007, a new restaurant, bar and banquet facilities were opened on site.
Silver Gulch was Fairbanks’ first brewery, followed by HooDoo Brewing Company, Black Spruce Brewing Company in 2018 and most recently Midnite Mine Brewing Company opened, becoming Fairbanks’ fourth brewery.
Silver Gulch Brewing is America’s most northern brewery/brewpub.
Experience
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to join a small crowd of locals at Silver Gulch Brewing. The place is immense and most of it was cordened off. The tasting room has plenty of tables, booths and a bar. The place even has an event area. The beertender was friendly and we started with a flight. Enjoyed the Fairbanks vienna lager and the Hipster Dipshit DIPA. The food menu was quite large but being in the mood for a burger, it was delicious. All in all, one of the better breweries found in Alaska. Right down the road is a section of the Alaskan pipeline, check it out.
When in Fairbanks check out Black Spruce and VooDoo. of course read our reviews before you go.
