Background
Small Batch Beer Co is in downtown Winston-Salem. Co-owners Ryan Blain, Cliff Etchason, and Tim Walker brew in 30- or 60-gallon batches at this old Kopper Kitchen location on West Fifth Street. The trio fell in love with the building and turned to Kickstarter where they shared their dreams for the place. Small Batch Beer Co started out in 2014 as a nanobrewery. Since we visited, they are now a brewery, bar and a full restaurant. You can now experience the brewery side or the quieter dining room side.
Tim Walker opened a second location of Burger Batch, a casual restaurant specializing in gourmet burgers and milkshakes and expects to have a healthy sister eatery next door.
Experience
It’s a very cool brewpub, a bit more of your hipster classic brew pub with a nice assortment of beer. We enjoyed The Beet Gose on, Mr. Lemon Head IPA and a nice Porter. They also offer a limited menu that looked pretty good. The barkeep was very friendly and recommended another local brewery…..Hoots Roller Bar!
The Small Batch is very walkable from the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel (fabulous hotel!) and is right across the street from the Embassy Suites.
