Springfield Brewing Company, Springfield, MO

Background

The Springfield Brewing Company has been in downtown Springfield since 1997. The Paul Mueller Company opened the brewery to create a beautiful showcase for their one of a kind stainless steel brewery tanks that are fabricated a few blocks away. Mueller’s goal was to provide the community with a brewpub experience combining local craft beer with great food. Distribution outside the brewpub was minimal. In 2011,  Brewmaster Ashton Lewis got together with a group of close friends and purchased the brewery. In 2015 the group installed eight 30-barrel stainless steel fermentation tanks in a nearby building increasing their production from 2,200 barrels a year to 6,000. Currently, four permanent beers and three seasonals are distributed to 60 counties in southwest Missouri.

Experience

We arrived at Springfield Brewing Company on an early Tuesday afternoon and sat at a table near the brewery tanks. It had been several years since we had been to SBC. It has a darkwood & brick pub feeling with a center bar draped with mug club mugs. Two walls display the brewing area. Upstairs there is another large dining area, a pool table and outside deck. They offer quite an extensive menu, we enjoyed some delicious Cod sliders and soup of the day. The beers were enjoyable, especially the Katydid Kolsch , Walnut Street Wheat and Green Ghost IPA. We recommend you also visit Mother’s Brewing right down the road and 4 Hands Brewing.  No nearby lodging noted.
