Stemma Brewing, Bellingham WA
Background – Stemma Brewing
Stemma Brewing opened in 2019 and is owned and operated by the Harper family, Jason Harper and his wife Kim Harper. Jason Harper serves as the owner and head brewer, with Kim Harper as the owner and Vice President.
As a homebrewer, Jason was interested in starting a brewery for about 10 years before making Stemma a reality. He wrote a brewery business plan while attending Western Washington University, worked in the beer industry as a distributor, and earned a Level 3 Advanced Cicerone certification before taking the plunge on starting a full-time brewery. Stemma introduced itself to the community before actually opening through collaboration brews and beer festivals.
Late in 2024, the Harpers purchased Twin Sisters Brewing for a second location, renaming it Stemma West. The additional space and equipment tripled Stemma’s brewing capacity.
Experience
We visited Stemma West on a Tuesday afternoon. We enjoyed the big area in the tasting room with plenty of tables, comfy chairs and a long bar. They had 6 varieties of beer, 14 selections, along with cider and wine options. I enjoyed a delicious hazy IPA. The food menu looked varietal, but we did not eat. Beertenders were great. We also enjoyed their awesome pet friendly beer garden. Overall a fun place to visit with good beers. Probably our favorite in the area. We recommend a visit.
Stemma is accessible, they have canned beer to go, and food to go. When in the area check out Mazama Public House.
