On the drive from Durham to the Outer Banks we discovered the perfect place to stop and take a break. In the rural community of Rocky Mount there is a cute little gastropub called Sweet Taters. It is a charming little house that has been converted to a brewery and restaurant. The lush green lawn outside has yard Yahtzee to play. The beer was pretty good and we shared the dipping duo of hummus and pimento cheese with veggies and lavosh.
This is a family operated business that opened in early 2016. The house the husband and wife owners converted was part of the housing for mill workers. An old mill campus, abandoned and in distress, is being revitalized with the help of visionaries like the team of Sweet Taters. Their mission is to preserve the culture and history of the area while incorporating locally sourced ingredients in the food and drink they serve.
We highly recommend a stop to any one in the area.
