The Brewtorium, Austin, TX

Background

Chris Rauschuber, an award-winning home-brewer, and Whitney Roberts, a business development and marketing maven, are the power couple behind The Brewtorium.  The couple’s first date was at a brewpub and craft beer has been the catalyst for many of their travels and adventures.

Chris has been honing his beer recipes and brewing process over the last decade.  His garage brewery served as a laboratory for many wild experiments and late nights of entertaining neighbors, friends and fellow brewers. Chris is most passionate about the classic German beer styles. The work to create Brewtorium began August of 2016. The doors finally opened in February 2018.

On the food menu (which has suggested beer pairings), German influence is present again, like flammkuchen (German-style pizza), mac and beer cheese, and bratwurst dishes. There are also classic pub fare like burgers, deviled eggs, and a couple of salads.

Experience

We arrived on an early Friday afternoon. A nice ramp made it easy to access this warehouse like brewery. The facility is a huge cavernous place with a variety of seating options. There is an order bar where you can request beers and food. The Brewtorium offered 11 beers on tap. As advertised, they do offer several German style beers. Since we were in the mood for some hoppy hazy varieties, we ordered in that direction. We chose to start with Pillow Fort, a good hazy Pale with a good nose and Surf Jazz, a pretty good Rye IPA. I gave the “Shake What Yo Momma Gave You” Milkshake IPA a try. Little too much vanilla for me. We did enjoy 184 Ft Stout, a nice coffee stout on nitro.

The Brewtorium offers a separate drinking room and a patio.  Dogs are welcome on the cozy patio, but not inside the main brewery due to current health department laws. They have a lunch and dinner menu. We were too early for the dinner menu but had a couple of snacks. The deviled eggs were pretty good and the pickled veggies were way too intense. Get the veggies if you love vegetables that crunch and vinegar!
