Three Stacks and a Rock, Morro Bay, CA

Background

Three Stacks and a Rock : Chuck and Ananda Nettnin moved from the craft beer mecca of San Diego to Morro Bay without any intention of starting a brewery. The couple soon came to the realization that Morro Bay could use more than one brewery, The Libertine. Chuck, a long time home brewer, began pondering taking the leap.

The couple discovered another brewing couple had already registered the name “Three Stacks and a Rock” in 2016 before bailing after six months. The Nettnins bought the name and took over in 2017. Three Stacks is the only nano-brewery in Morro Bay that actually brews on site.

Three Stacks and a Rock is a nickname for Morro Bay, California due to the presence of three 450 foot high power plant smokestacks that dominate the harbor along with 581 foot high massive Morro Rock.

Experience

We visited Three Stacks and a Rock at their Main Street location. We arrived one weekday afternoon and joined a couple other patrons. The tasting room was pretty small with the brewing equipment behind the taps. Chatted with the friendly brew tender, decided on a flight and sat outside under an Easy-Up. The beer was drinkable, probably preferred the lager. I believe they had a few snack options.

We understand they have moved into a new spot on Embarcadero with a patio and wider food options. We’d like to check out the new place.
