Thunderhead Brewing, Kearney, NE

Background

Thunderhead Brewing was founded in 1999 by Trevor Schaben, his wife Jenny, and his parents Pam and Henry. The name is a reference to the thunderstorms that roll across the plains. Thunderheads roll in, storms are brewing, and the rain pours.

Current Thunderhead locations include Kearney, Axtell and Willcox. Their production facility is in Axtell, NE. The tasting rooms also offer Pizza and have canned beer to go.

Experience

We rolled into Kearney and Thunderhead Brewing on a Monday afternoon. The tasting room is in an older part of town. Several patrons were enjoying pizza and beer. We got seats at the bar and ordered a flight. The beer was standard and none of them caught my attention.

The tasting room is accessible and parking out front. There is a small bar and many tables throughout. Pizza is available and looked good. There is also some canned beer available to go. Very friendly beer tenders and all debated the best steak in town. No nearby lodging noted.

When in the area you must go to Joy’s Table for a Nebraska steak. We split a Tomahawk steak and it was fantastic! What for our review of Pal’s Brewing in North Platte!
