Background
Triple Rock Brewing opened its doors in March 1986, the creation of brothers John and Reid Martin. When they started brewing beer, only four other brewpubs existed. Today they are the only ones still using original brewing equipment and the only brewpub still owned and operated by the original founders. The duo have gone on to build a small empire of brewpubs and bars in California and Washington State: Twenty Tank Brewery in San Francisco, Big Time Brewery in Seattle, Drake’s Brewing Co. in San Leandro, Drake’s Dealership in Oakland and Jupiter in Berkeley.
Today the Head Brewer is Jeff Kimpe who has been in the brewing industry for many years getting experience at Pyramid and Drake’s before coming to Triple Rock.
Experience
We arrived on a Wednesday evening and started with a flight of beer. We really enjoyed the Euro Pacific IPA, Today’s Wheat & Oaklander Weisse. The tasting Room is a nice sized spot with many tables, a bar, game area and some cool artwork. The brewing equipment is visible from tasting room. We also grabbed dinner. We had a very knowledgeable and friendly server that enhanced our experience. The food menu offered more than typical bar food and was very tasty.
While in the area we enjoyed The Rare Barrel & Almanac Brewing. We also visited the popular Jupiter right down the street. The outdoor patio and live entertainment was the big draw there. The bay area is a great spot to spend a week visiting all the great craft breweries. There is the Hotel Shattuck about .3 miles away and the Graduate Berkeley about 1 mile away. The Double Tree Inn at the Berkeley arena was a short Uber ride away.
