Background
Wanderlust Brewing Company opened in October 2012. It’s a 3 barrel brewhouse and a one-man show – and that man is Nathan Friedman. Nathan is an engineer for Flagstaff’s W.L. Gore, working with medical products by day, and often by night. Friedman says he approaches the brewery as a chemical processing plant, focusing on finding and controlling variables to make sure every batch tastes the same. The entire brewery is controlled from a remotely accessible touch-screen panel.
Wanderlust has a slew of German and Belgian-style beers on tap. They are also known for their sour beers and being the only brewery in Flagstaff that regularly has nitro beers.
Experience
This is a great little high country 3BBL brewery run by Nathan Friedman. We enjoyed all of the beers we tried at Wanderlust Brewing Company. The West Bound Vagabond DIPA I found had a DIPA nose, and a slightly smokey hoppy flavor. The Coconino Common Sour was a little more sour than some I have had but still enjoyable. Also enjoyed the Sorachi Sahti, the coffee vanilla Stout and the smokey Mesquite Saison Also, the day we were there, a local baker had some baked goods for purchase which was a nice touch.
When in the area check out Historic Brewing.
There is a Best Western Pony Soldier Inn & Suites about a mile walk away.
