Background
Wooden Robot is the brainchild of Dan Wade and Josh Patton. Dan is a seasoned brewmaster with a Master of Science in brewing from a Scotland University. While there, he toured Europe where he grew to love farmhouse ales. Josh Patton is the business brains of the duo and is a former banker. The brewery doors were opened in the summer of 2015. The duo are planning a second location in the NoDa area of Charlotte in the Spring of 2019.
Experience
The building is a large brick facility with a long bar, communal beer hall tables, and a lounge area with couches and coffee tables.Wooden Robot is in the booming South End of Charlotte. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and the tasting room was pretty crowded although we were able to snag a hightop table. The fermentation room is visible in the tasting room and it is said they were the first in Charlotte to bring in a Feuder! The beer choices are great with sours, farmhouses, IPA and specialities. Loved the Piney West by Southeast IPA, What He’s Having 15.0 a juicy IPA, and Foeder For Thought, a barrel sour. We easily could have spent the day there.
Wooden Robot has teamed up with chef Rob Masone who ran Twisted Eats, the food truck that was previously parked outside Wooden Robot. You can order food anywhere within the Wooden Robot tasting room or the adjoining Kre8 Gastropub.
Robot is definitely one of our favorites in Charlotte. Be sure to plan to visit and spend some time, so much to love!
