York Beach Beer Company, York, ME

Background

Father and Son Dave and David Rowland opened York Beach Beer Company in March of 2019. They installed a 10 barrel brewhouse in an old Post Office about a block from Short Sands Beach.

Their involvement in brewing started with David getting interested in homebrewing after obtaining his teaching degree. After working for 10 years as a history teacher, David got laid off went to work for his father Lake Placid. Homebrewing continued there and David got his father hooked.

David and his wife Jen began to explore opening a brewery in earnest. They finally decided on York, Maine and opened SoMe Brewing Company in 2013 becoming York’s first brewery. Business was good and as a result, they expanded their footprint in 2015.

Running the sister breweries is a family affair including David’s sister Sarah as General Manager as well as Jen and David’s mother Leslie.

Experience

We visited York Beach Beer Company on a Friday afternoon. The tasting room has several low tables and a place to order beer. The beer making equipment is visible behind a low wall. Their patio has several metal picnic tables and even a few fire tables.

We ordered a flight and sat inside initially, then ordered a pint and checked out the patio. All the beers were enjoyable especially ShoreBreak, a NEIPA.

The tasting room is accessible. There are several types of merchandise for sale and a nice supply of canned beer to go. The brewery is in close proximity to two hotels, York Beach Residence Club and Inn on the Blues. York Beach is worth a visit.

When in the area check out Mason’s Brewing and Odd by Nature!
