Background
Boise Brewing is located near Downtown Boise. It was founded in 2012 by Collin Rudeen, who signed up for a monthly vegetable box from his community garden and desired to be able to also pick up fresh beer with his vegetables. Like many breweries nowadays, initial funding was started via Kickstarter. What is unique about Boise Brewing is that it is community owned, which is only true of a few breweries across the country. The tap room opened in 2014 and by 2017, they were producing more than 2,000 barrels of beer a year.
Experience
We visited Boise Brewing in September of 2021. The tap room is on a side street and the Boise Brewing name and logo is painted on the facade. Upon entering, you see large tanks of beer in the background, and a small bar with some seating around it. Off to the side there are about a dozen tables with chairs. The interior has that industrial/warehouse/brewery vibe. They have a medium sized semi-shaded patio outside.
It was a nice day so we took advantage of the patio. It was around 2pm on a Tuesday and there were a few local students sitting on the patio, and a few locals sitting at the bar. The beer was pretty tasty. We tried the Boise Blonde and Jagged Shard Red Ale. We ended up purchasing more beer than we could consume on the remainder of the trip.
The brewery does not offer food, but allows you to order from local restaurants and even has a phone that directly dials a local pizza place.
We drove from Stanley, ID to spend the day in Boise, and took advantage of metered street parking nearby. It’s near downtown so there is no shortage of lodging nearby, and one could easily walk here if you are staying in Boise. Overall the beer was tasty, it had a good vibe, and definitely worth checking out.
