Lost Forty Brewing, Little Rock, AR

Background

Lost Forty Brewing was founded in 2014 by John Beachboard, Scott McGehee, Albert Braunfisch, and Russ McDonough. Three of these gentlemen, John Beachboard, Scott McGehee, and Russ McDonough created Yellow Rocket Concepts, that operated several restaurants before expanding into the beer business.

The name Lost Forty comes from the Lost 40, a 40-acre forest in Calhoun County where virgin hardwood and pine trees still grow. Beachboard said his grandfather was a timberman with the Potlatch Corp. According to legend, Potlatch would send its men out to harvest trees in what became known as The Lost 40, but they’d drink beer instead, returning to say they couldn’t find the forest. In 1996, the Potlatch Corp. and the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission entered into a 40-year cooperative management agreement to conserve the Lost 40.

Experience

Traveling between Oklahoma City and Memphis we stopped for lunch around midday on a Sunday. We sat at the bar and watched as beers were poured and pancakes were cooked. We started with a flight of four, a couple hazies and a couple lighter beers. All were quaffable.

Lost Forty Brewing offers a pretty good menu. Brunch is available Sundays. The regular menu has pizza, burgers, sandwiches and other munchies. We ordered another flight of four so in the end, we tried 8 of the twelve varieties offered and found them all pretty good.

The tasting room offers some canned beers to go and does offer growler fills. We left with a bottle of Funky Saison.

The tasting room is accessible. There is both a Holiday Inn Express and a Holiday Inn near Lost Forty. If you are traveling through Nashville, we suggest you check out New Heights Brewing!
