Background
Roses by the Stairs Brewing owner Jordan Ham, an engineer and hobbyist homebrewer, opened in May of 2022. His dream was to create a “farmhouse-inspired brewery” that would focus on experimental brews using Arizona ingredients grown by local farmers, such as prickly pear and Saguaro fruit, as well as sours, barrel-aged sours, IPAs, and stouts.
The brewery is located in the building that was home to beloved Easley’s Fun Shop for over 70 years. Ham is aiming to continue the tradition of a family business with a strong focus on community. The brewery’s name came from a line in a Blink 182 song “All The Small Things” that Ham liked growing up.
The taproom has a rectangular bar and a mix of lounge seating, farmhouse tables, and community tables, many of which Ham built himself using reclaimed wood.
Experience
We originally visited Roses by the Stairs Brewing about a month after they opened. I was immediately impressed with 7 different beers on tap for such a young brewery. And, very unique offerings. Enjoyed the very impressive beers and spoke with the original brewer, Robert Rosemann. The tasting room does not have food, so we went next door to Little O’s for a snack.
With concrete floors, high exposed ceilings, a glass garage door, and large steel fermentation vessels, Roses by the Stairs is a far cry from its predecessor, Easley’s Fun Shop.
We returned two years later to see upgraded glassware and flights and a new brewer, Jordan Gregory. Still had a long list of beer options and still varied and quite good beer. They acquired a canning line and now you can find their beer around town. In addition the have several varieties of canned beer to go.
The tasting room is accessible with excellent handicapped parking spots right up front. Otherwise, not a ton of parking. We suggest you pay Roses a visit! When in the area, check out Wren House, AZ Wilderness and Simple Machine Brewing!
