Wren House Brewing, Phoenix, AZ

Background – Wren House Brewing

Around May of 2014, work began on converting a 1920’a house and garage into Westward Brewing Co. Drew Pool, Bill Hammond and head brewer Preston Thoeny are the owners. By the time they received license approval and they were scheduled to open, around July 2015, they ran into trademark issues for Westward. In the end, they opened under the new name Wren House Brewing. I am happy we snagged an original Westward growler.

Experience

Located around 24th Street and Oak, Wren House Brewing is one of three fairly new breweries around the 24th Street corridor. It is housed in a small old house in a funky area, ie transitional, near downtown.  It is a charming little tasting room with a large community table, bar and a couple of little niche sitting areas if you can snag one.  A very “homey” atmosphere!  They have a great assortment of beer styles for a young brewery.  Preston always manages to have some creative ales on the list.  We give props to a brewery that attempts to have some kind of sour on tap.  One of our favorites is their berliner weisse, definitely growler worthy!  Jolene, pale ale with ginger is also noteworthy as is their original Black Caddis porter and Jomax stout. Of course they brew the IPAs.

Over the years they have continued to improve their product and in 2020 produce some of the best beer in Arizona in our humble opinion. We are loving their hazy IPA’s!

We encourage all to check them out and while you are at it, nearby is Helton Brewing & Helio Basin Brewing.
