Jeff Silver practiced making beer in his garage for 20 years before opening Rough Draft Brewing in 2012. Located in the “Beer” Mesa or Mira Mesa area it is one of several fairly new breweries in the area. Jeff focused on his beer and increasing his varieties the first several years. In November 2015, Jeff enlisted the team behind the Gaslamp’s Quad AleHouse to launch an in-house food program at Rough Draft. They utilized a slim 200-square-feet of the brewery and can offer charcuterie boards, pretzels, panini and flatbreads. Most recently in October 2017 they opened a satellite pub at UCSD’s Mesa Nueva housing complex.
We arrived on a Tuesday early evening and there were a few other folks there. They have alot of space with several tables and couches available as well as the bar. For group activities they also offer their “Barrel Room” with its own bar and food service. They had 18 different beers on tap from a selection of IPA varieties, barrel aged, ales, stouts and a nice Sour. Along with the beer we did enjoy the delicious meat pies and a large ceasar salad.
We stayed in the area and used Uber to visit several of the area breweries. Make this area a destination.
